Notes are provided on each strategy and these are backed up by exercises that practise each strategy. The main areas are in whole numbers, decimals, fractions, ratio and percentage, with some work on algebra. Teachers should ensure that they are familiar with the specific learning outcomes for each strategy as outlined in the Numeracy Projects books and that the necessary teaching is completed before setting the tasks given in this book. By using this textbook, teachers will be saved many hours of preparation and photocopying to support their specific teaching programme—but it is not a one-stop numeracy course. It is intended to support classroom work where teachers will need to teach concepts and strategies using equipment and hands-on materials. Students will gain a basic knowledge of their own country - the WHEN, WHAT, WHY, WHERE, WHO and HOW of New Zealand/Aotearoa. The New Zealand Curriculum states that it “recognises that all students should have the opportunity to undertake study in essential areas of learning and to develop essential skills. Such learning will enable them to develop their potential, to continue learning throughout life, and to participate effectively and productively in New Zealand’s democratic society and in a competitive world economy.” A prerequisite for this is that students have a basic knowledge of their own country - the WHEN, WHAT, WHY, WHERE, WHO and HOW of New Zealand/Aotearoa. This series aims to deliver that knowledge in a way that: · is 100% user-friendly · is accessible to all learner levels · allows opportunity for further in-depth study of a particular topic · allows students freedom of choice to use their own colours on the pages · is contained in a workbook that can be kept by students as a personal record · will equip students with the backdrop of knowledge that links to specific curricula · encourages students to use the eight essential skills specified by the New Zealand Curriculum for all students across the whole curriculum throughout their years of schooling · will instill pride in being a citizen of New Zealand.
